Keishla Rosales, senior at Bellaire High School, is the first migrant student to be awarded the College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP) scholarship in the Greater Houston area. CAMP is a federally-funded educational support and scholarship program that helps more than 2,000 students annually from migrant and seasonal farmworking backgrounds to reach and succeed in college. There are only six universities in Texas that award this scholarship. Among them is Texas A&M International University Laredo, where Rosales is attending this fall. Components of the CAMP program include a freshman seminar class for selected participants, recruitment and outreach activities; personal, academic and career counseling; tutoring; academic instruction, academic skill-building activities; financial aid and life-skills exploration.
Rosales was interviewed by Denisse Cantu, host of HISD’s Aprendamos Juntos. She is featured at minute 21:44-25:46. Click on the link below.
