The Houston Grand Opera graciously hosted our students of Las Americas School this past Monday, April 29th. The students listened to the 45-minute opera, Daniel and the Dreamcatcher. The story is based on a children’s story of courage and was written in English by Sterling Tinsley.
Las Americas School has a significant refugee and immigrant student population. The Refugee Program, coordinated through the Multilingual Programs Department, provides support to newly arrived refugee students when they first arrive in the United States. “This will be a truly memorable experience for the students to experience live theater,” said Shirin Herman, Refugee Program staff. Ms. Herman worked with the staff at the Houston Grand Opera to facilitate this event.
