Sheltered Instruction Training

By: Rosina Anaya Kiggundu

Throughout the summer HISD teachers have been learning about different educational strategies for the upcoming 2014-2015 school year.  The Sheltered Instruction Plus training focused on providing teachers in grades 3-5 “Best Practices” instructional strategies to support the academic achievement and literacy development of elementary English Language Learning students.  This training is based on the work of John Seidlitz and focuses on using sentence stems to increase language development.  Participants gained tools for differentiating instruction for their ELL students.
