The Multilingual Programs Department and its Migrant Division are sponsoring 10 slots for Bilingual/ESL students in grades 9-11 to participate in an all-expense paid educational trip to Close Up-Washington, D.C. on June 11-17, 2017.
This is a one of a kind opportunity for qualifying high school students to take learning out of the book and place it in the live experience of how the people, events and government impact their lives today.
From visits to Washington’s famous monuments, and working their way into case-studies of law and policy, simulations, role-playing activities, to meetings with the Congressional delegation on Capitol Hill, Close Up students will get a first-hand look at the American political system and consider what role they, as students, play in democracy.
To participate, Bilingual/ESL students in grades 9-11 must complete an electronic application and submit an essay before Friday, March 24th. Then a cross-departmental committee will review submissions and select ten participants.
This is the 5th year that Multilingual Programs sponsors a group of high school students to live this educational experience.
This opportunity will surely impact positively in your hands-on activities, school, community, civic activism, communication, collaboration, and leadership skills.
