The Secondary ESL division delivered the official award letters to the ten immigrant ELL students who were chosen to attend the Close-Up Program in Washington D.C. this summer.
The Close-Up program will provide these students an educational experience that highlights democracy in the United States and the American representational form of government.
Participants will also get to see all the monuments memorials, and museums that bring U.S. history to life.
Winners were chosen based on their essays which highlighted their struggles with regard to learning English, attending school in the US, and adjusting to life in Houston.
Many of the winners talked about how hard it was to leave all that was familiar and their family members to live in a completely new place; however, they all expressed that they are glad to be here want to take full advantage of all the opportunities that the United States offers.
