30 girls from Revere Middle School participated in a Women and Girls Luncheon hosted by the Texas Women’s Empowerment Foundation’s (TWEF).
Students from HISD and other school districts had the opportunity to interact -while having lunch- with women of various cultures and professions. At each table, they uncovered creative and valuable tools through conversations with these dynamic mentors.
The event sought to make a high impact on young girls, “empower them and leave a memorable experience at each table,” said CEO and founder Deavra A. Daughtry.
After the two-hour program, participating students -accompanied by Jenny Martinez, Tralynza Conley, and Multilingual’s outreach worker Neneh Koroma- said to be grateful for being part of the event. “It was very important, especially because you learn that struggling in life should not stop you from accomplishing your goals.” Another student learned to “always be careful who your friends are, analyze all things, take the good, leave the bad behind,” and a third girl expressed “I understood that we need to be empowered, have self-love and be leaders and conquerors and not followers.“
