Over 300 kindergarten, first and second-grade students eagerly walked into the cafeteria at Walnut Bend Elementary. It wasn’t an ordinary lunch day for them. That Tuesday they were almost quietly thinking what toy they would pick from the tables filled with bouncing balls, Hulk figures, Star Wars characters and other dolls.
Thanks to the support given by Amanaah Refugee Services, scholars had the opportunity to enjoy new gifts donated by this organization.
Amaanah has been partnering with HISD to send tutors to several HISD schools to assist immigrant and refugee students.
Shirin Herman from the Multilingual Department accompanied Amanaah staff and students. “The children were thrilled and very happy to receive the gifts. It was great watching them walk through a maze of tables filled with gifts that they had to pick from”.
