Newsela: a great way for ELL students to master nonfiction in any subject

Newsela, launched in 2013, is a platform that gathers news from various sources and rewrites them according to students’ reading levels in grades 2 – 12.

Now students can study the same content, in English or Spanish, and learn at their own pace while teachers guide them through assessments—like Quizzes, Annotations and Write Prompts— that are available for every article at every level. A great way to improve critical thinking skills and measure student progress in real time.

After a teacher signs up, a 30 day free trial will be available and the platform will give the corresponding access to articles. Later on, students may also adjust their reading level on each article by choosing a simpler or more complex version.

Teachers can also keep track of each student’s progress, identify who needs more help, review assignments, access quizzes, among other interactive activities.
